2. Demand for the Project

a. About DAS Corp.

DAS Corporation is manufacturing company which mainly produces automotive seat assembly, seat mechanism and core mechanism (recliner etc.), basically it’s headquarter is in KyungJu, Korea. Our main customer is HKMC (Hyundai/Kia Motors), we do business with Geely, Changan as well. DAS has 12 branches worldwide; China(6), America(2), Europe/Asia(4).

b. Issue & Challenges

Executive officers and HQ strategic planning team always have had issue about controlling and having communication with overseas branches. Because they neither have lots of residents nor IT system. HQ planning team gather raw data from each branches by email every single month, make out monthly reports for CEO. This process brings work inefficiency as well as data inaccuracy.

 


2. Project Details

a. Basic Concept

Purpose of the project is to offer report with live data of 14 major business indicators to CEO and other executives. Indicators are specified for 4 categories; Production, Quality, Accounting, Etc.

For presenting reports, we set up its own database just for reporting which is called EDW(Enterprise Data Warehouse). There are two reasons of it. First of all, for the HQ, legacy systems has established without any regulation so that we need refined data to utilize. Every data is regulated and calculated for the index and interfaced through ETL Server (Extract, Transform, Load) to EDW DB. Second, for the branches, majority of our points have few IT systems, no data to interface, so we don’t have any choice but to make them input data manually direct to EDW DB. (e.g. daily manufacturing log)

b. Reports Layout

 

<Main form>


Main form is for executives and it is displayed 24/7 to their office. It presents global total results of DAS corporation about 14 indicators with 4 fields;   production, quality, accounting, etc. Bar Chart and guage chart is used for comparing goal with result and visual effect, pie chart for presenting detail categories.

 

<Common Form1>

Project team didn’t have enough time to develop each pages separately because scheduled project period was fixed as 3 months. That’s why we need a common form of report. With this common form, more than 60 pages could be developed within the project term successfully. The most important thing of the report was to make CEO possible to compare spots and order them specifically. Every first report page of each indicator is like picture above. Comparison between branches is on the left (bar chart), monthly result is followed on the right. The strength of the form is that it is interactive; index card and monthly graph on the right above are change whenever left bar of each sites is clicked, following parameter. It makes users to compare the results and details easily. When “details” button is clicked, linked report is viewed as drill-down. It provides monthly and daily summary with chart and grid.

<Common Form2>


<Common form2> is for general managers. Unlike <Common Form1>, <Common Form2> provides data with more details. It doesn’t have any graphs or summed data, rather it gives raw data. By using it, managers more likely to get insights about indicates mentioned above.

 

4.Conclusion

We realize three positive effects about this project. ① HQ strategic planning team no longer has to gather data and reunify it so that their work loss decreased. ② Decision makers in the company gain live data of global DAS. It would help them to manage branches with more accuracy than before. ③ Global sites come to have demands of legacy systems such as MES to get management data more precisely. ④ It was the Finereport to make project team to finish MIS project fast and successful. Therefore, DAS corp. consider MIS system as the basis of management to retain efficiency.
